Contact Quintus Management
You have just clicked our Contact Us icon for which we have chosen the universally
used '@' or 'at' symbol. We've done this simply because it seems to have largely replaced the
envelope or the telephone as a visual prompt meaning 'to contact' or 'to send.'
The origin of the '@' is a little obscure. While it has been widely used as a commercial invoicing
abbreviation (as in 1 dozen @ £2 = £24) for many centuries, it is believed to be of Anglo
Norman origin. The word 'at' was written as 'a' with an accent over the letter. However scribes
involved in keeping accounts often 'squiggled' the the tail of the 'a' over the top, thus the quill did
not have to leave the page. With the advent of the Internet and the development of communication
protocols it was adopted as the symbol for 'email'. Thus its meaning has evolved. Language really
is a living thing!
